Early 35's Mailing List This is a mailing list for ALL makes of Pre-1950  35mm still cameras, lenses, accessories of any 35mm format, for BOTH users and collectors (Early35s), whether fixed or interchangeable lens, whether single or stereo lensed, whether viewfinder or SLR.    The early developments in 35 are often  overlooked or forgotten, perhaps this list can encourage appreciation of the History of 35mm cameras. I started this list primarily as a result of my interest in PRE-LEICA 35's, but then I realized the info is so hard to find, not to mention the cameras, that I should include all pre-1950 35's -- otherwise this list might have a membership of one. Among the more famous 35's included in the Early 35's viewfinder are Leica, Zeiss Contax, Exakta, Argus, Ansco Memo, and Kodak Retina.   Less famous cameras covered include the English Lleo, the Tourist Multiple, Multi-Speed Simplex, the Homeos stereo, George Smith's 1912 full frame prototype, the French Sept, the Swiss made Sico, the French Le Furet, the Le Cent Vue, the Levy-Roth Minigraph, the Talbot belt camera, the British Centrum, the Kodak 00 Cartridge Premo, the French made Photo Tank, the Krauss Eka, the Esco made in Nurenberg Germany, and the Austrian made Amourette, and of course Oskar Barnack's prototypes.  Pre-1950 also includes early Nikons, Canons, Minoltas, among other early Japanese made 35's.  Thanks to Leica's replica reproduction of the Leica O series, it is the only early 35 which can be bought new as this is written, although it is somewhat pricey.    Among the least expensive,  but one of the most important early 35's,  is the American made Argus A. List Guidelines Early35s
Flaming and uncivil behavior on the list is strongly discouraged.  Flame posts will get you removed from the list.   Spirited discussion is strongly encouraged, but be nice to each other.  Please stay on topic with pre 1950 cameras and photography related posts.   Save discussion for such topics as hats, underwear, war crimes, religion, etc for your private email, instead of uselessly cluttering the inboxes of List  members who subscribed for ON topic discussions.  Email diarrhea: Some lists are occasionally "attacked" by overzealous members who think they must respond to practically every post.  Please limit your postings to no more than five per day.   Witty replies: Some lists have members under the delusion that everyone subscribed to read their often ill conceived attempts at humor and quick repartee.   Please save smart-ass replies for private email, or the stage if you really are a comedian.  Selling and Buying: Private sellers or buyers may post their ads any day, but limit your ads to once per week.   Dealer for sale or buying posts of any kind of ads are not allowed,   a standard which I will also follow.   If you have questions about something for sale or wanted, email the person privately instead of posting your question to the list. SPAM Software: Subscribers with anti-SPAM software may NOT require each list poster to authenticate a message.  IF you can't simply authenticate the list, get new anti-SPAM software, or find another mailing list. People removed for not following list guidelines may also be removed from other CameraQuest lists.  People booted off are generally not given warnings, the logic being that if subscribers don't take the time to read and follow the list guidelines, the list administrator's time is better spent elsewhere.
Using Early35s
To post a message to all the list members after you are subscribed, send email to early35s@CameraQuest.org. You can subscribe to the list, or change your existing subscription, in the sections below. If you have several email accounts, you must use the same "reply to" address that you are subscribed under in order to post messages. COOKIES on your browser to MUST be enabled to make changes to your preferences.  IF you are running security software, it also must be set to accept cookies while you are logged in.  Mailing List Options:  You will create a password when you subscribe which allows you to log in and modify your list preferences.   You will also be sent a monthly reminder on how to manage your account.   Log into your account at http://www.cameraquest.org/mailman/options/early35s/your_email_address_here  to change your list preferences. Once logged into your account, you can choose email, weekly digest, or web only reading options.  For web only, choose "no mail" and then log into the archives when you wish to visit. Search List Archives by logging into http://www.cameraquest.org/mailman/private/early35s   Due to changing the list hosting from Topica,  the list archive starts April 4th, 2004.  Unsubscribe by logging into your account and following the menu directions.
Subscribing to Early35s
Subscribe to Early35s by filling out the following form. You will be sent email requesting confirmation, to prevent others from gratuitously subscribing you. This is a hidden list, which means that the list of members is available only to the list administrator. Your email address:   Your name (required):   You may enter a privacy password below. This provides only mild security, but should prevent others from messing with your subscription. Do not use a valuable password as it will occasionally be emailed back to you in clear text. If you choose not to enter a password, one will be automatically generated for you, and it will be sent to you once you've confirmed your subscription. You can always request a mail-back of your password when you edit your personal options. Once a month, your password will be emailed to you as a reminder.
